Biography

My name is Zaher Redwan. I am a development strategist, third-generation herbalist, and social innovator with deep roots in Lebanon’s cultural and environmental fabric. Guided by a legacy of traditional healing and a lifelong commitment to sustainable development, my journey blends ancestral wisdom with forward-looking strategies for social and ecological transformation.

As the founder of Green Hand, I have led pioneering efforts in agroforestry, herbal medicine, environmental stewardship, and inclusive economic development. Green Hand has become a key actor in creating value chains for small-scale farmers, developing post-harvesting centers, and promoting nature-based solutions across Lebanon. This work is grounded in a holistic vision that respects the land, empowers communities, and fosters resilience.

My background as a third-generation herbalist has deeply shaped my approach—honoring natural systems, traditional knowledge, and the intersection of health, culture, and environment.

In parallel with my grassroots and organizational work, I have been recognized for my professional expertise through various national and international assignments. One such role is my current post as a National Consultant for the International Maritime Organization (IMO)—a specialized UN agency focused on maritime development. This role reflects the trust placed in my ability to contribute to complex, cross-sectoral development efforts in Lebanon. It stands as one facet of a broader career committed to responsible growth and systems change.

Earlier in my career, I played a leading role in establishing the Coalition for Tobacco Control in Lebanon, contributing significantly to the public health law that reshaped tobacco policy in the country.

My contributions to environment have been acknowledged by the life Ashoka Fellowship, honoring my work as a changemaker with impact at scale.

Currently, I continue to advance the Authentic Aley Strategic Framework—an innovative, impact-driven decentralization model for Lebanon. Through this framework, we aim to activate regional development, strengthen community resilience, and promote participatory governance.

My path is one of rooted innovation—drawing strength from heritage while forging new ground for Lebanon’s sustainable and inclusive future.
